Verse Getting There About the picture

"The Centinel"
O aged one
what wonders have you seen
there on wind-swept crest
ever standing stately and keen?

Has the waft of juniper
 or the scorch below
imparted unto thee
thine prophetic pose?

May I share this vista
o'er which you peer?
Departing with a memory
providing everlasting cheer.

About the picture

This photograph was taken from the south rim of the Grand Canyon near one of the many pullovers for getting out and admiring the view. The old weathered tree in the foreground takes on an almost human character. Standing at the rim, limbs protruding as if they were hands raised in praise of the grandeur before it. The title, "Centinel" is actually a little play on words, combining the Cent from century to relate the ageless character, and ..inel is from Sentinel so that when the parts are combined they refer to an ageless guardian or watcher.
